Chondrus Crispus itself grows in a number of locations that have warmer temperatures. North America, Parts of Europe, and the Carribean are places where this Sea Moss is well known to be found. We source ours from near Peru but the main requirement for quality is not a location but the quality of the natural biology and harvesting practices.
We plan on supporting a full range of Sea Moss types to meet wellness needs of the community, not necessarily a dictate based on tradition but on evidence harvested by responsible suppliers.

Short Answer: No, Sea Moss does not contain these elements and would not cause a reaction.
Adding Context: Always consult a doctor, pharmacist, or herbalist if you have questions or concerns.
- If you are allergic to Sea Weeds, you should consult with your doctor is this is a concern before consuming significant amounts.
- Keep in mind Sulfa, Sulfite, Sulfate, and Sulfur are completely different things. You should not confuse them as only two out of the four have any kind of common occurrence but even those are very rare.
- If you are concerned you have sensitivities to Carrageenan, you should understand Irish Sea Moss contains different types of Carrageenan than is found in your processed foods. “Keep in mind that this controversy relates to a single molecule derived from Irish Moss – these claims and data do not necessarily relate to consuming the entire seaweed, which is made up of thousands of other molecules and minerals, many of which are highly beneficial if consumed in context and moderation” (TotallyWildUK, 2022-01-31. Irish Moss Seaweed (Chondrus crispus) Identification –)
Certainly! Sea Moss has a lot of calcium, and key minerals and vitamins that children need while they are growing. Keep in mind that children need a lot less iodine than an adult, therefore as a general rule keep to the minimum suggested serving size for regular servings.
Our oldest son started when he was three years old and our youngest when he was just 11 months. One tablespoon of sea moss gel typically has around 98 mcg of Iodine (this will update after we receive our lab test on this subject in the next month) which is safe. Our products use the whole plant, so the amount of Iodine is mixed with other important minerals and vitamins that are helpful to the body overall.
Try the sea moss gel in smoothies, in water, yogurt, or favorite drink, or in food. Whatever works for your littles ones, knowing you are providing them a nutritious snack that their bodies need.
Always consult your pediatrician or an herbalist if you have concerns or questions.
In general, there are four ways to tell if your sea moss is past its expiration date or spoiled:
- If the color of your sea moss suddenly changes (off color)
- If there is a strong musty smell
- If the sea moss gel becomes slimy or watery
- If you see off-color marks that is actually mold forming near the top of the bottle (usually green) or in the middle of your sea moss (mixture of white and green).
At that point it is best to throw it. Please be sure to at least refrigerate your sea moss at temperatures below 40 degrees and never let it sit out extended periods of time in warm or room temperature.
You can store the product in a refrigerator below 40 degrees (we store ours at 34 degrees if its there) or even in the freezer (at most 32 degrees) where we store most of our products that is ready to ship.
If you do freeze your sea moss, keep in mind it may take a day to thaw in your fridge, which is the recommended way to ensure safe thawing.
If you receive your bottle and there is a crack, please do not eat any of it. Instead, take a picture and include your invoice number as our Refund Policy explains. Short answer is we will send you a new one.
Short Answer: It definitely can be!
Context:
- Sea Moss has many wonderful qualities that are helpful for pregnancy in all stages (including the baby inside!). High amounts of minerals for the baby, solid list of Vitamins, and assists in motility that many pregnant women struggle with at some point
- Pregnant mothers have greater demand for Iodine from the thyroid, and Irish Sea Moss is perfect to address this
- Helps with anemia, swelling in the legs, and ensuring more energy thorough your pregnancy
The only caveat is that there are not many studies regarding Sea Moss and pregnant women, but in medicine this can be ok, too. Sea Moss has exploded around the USA since 2020, and no studies have shown it can have a negative effect on the outcomes but plenty of anecdotal testimonies can be found on the positive side.
If you crave Sea Moss, it likely has something your pregnancy body is wanting, which is also a good sign. If you still have any questions or concerns, as always seek a medical doctor or herbalist for help.
